calcisome

(redirected from calciosome)

calcisome

A name for a hypothetical membrane-bound assembly of calcium sensors, target enzymes and inhibitory proteins, once thought to be involved in pumping Ca2+ in permeabilised neutrophils in response to hormonal activity. While it was regarded as distinct from the endoplasmic reticulum, the structure was never proven to exist.
