CDH17

A gene on chromosome 8q22.1 that encodes cadherin 17, which is a component of the GI tract and pancreatic ducts, acting as an intestinal proton-dependent peptide transporter in the first step in oral absorption of medically important peptide-based drugs. Cadherin 17 may also play a role in the morphological organisation of the liver and intestine.
