body armour

A term coined by W Reich in reference to a person’s muscular and emotional blocks, which are due to the repression of one’s sexuality and the cause of most disease. Body armour is thus a constellation of postures and expressions that mould to a personality and protect it from the world. Reich divided body armour into 7 segments: eyes, mouth, neck, chest and arms, diaphragm, abdomen, and pelvis and legs. The Reichian therapist’s role is to choose exercises that act on and ultimately removes the body armour.
