bi·op·ter·in

(bī-op'ter-in),
A pterin found in yeast, the fruit fly, and in normal human urine. The reduced form of biopterin serves as a coenzyme for a number of enzyme-catalyzed reactions.

biopterin

An enzyme cofactor which is an oxidised degradation product of tetrahydrobiopterin, and involved in oxidation-reduction reactions.

biopterin

(bī-ŏp′tĕr-ĭn)
2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-(1,2-hydroxypropyl) pteridine, important in metabolizing phenylalanine. A deficiency of biopterin is a rare cause of phenylketonuria.

Effective methylation in the liver is also important and may be achieved by supplementing with B vitamins, particularly folate, as this may have an effect on the rate of biopterin synthesis.
Neopterin and biopterin are by-products of the redox reactions involving tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4).
5), which may be due to the observation that (R)-NMSal deleted the allostery of tyrosine hydroxylase to biopterin and limited catecholamine synthesis (10).
Sauna therapy acts to raise the biosynthesis of BH4 by raising the levels of GPCH, but that much of this BH4 can be subsequently oxidized to BH2 and biopterin, showing that there is still a lot of oxidative stress going on in these patients following sauna therapy.
