pain or discomfort in the epigastric region resulting from spasm, especially of the sphincter of Oddi, following cholecystectomy. It interferes with bile drainage.
biliary dyskinesiaAn idiopathic disorder of bile motility linked to structural and/or functional abnormalities of Oddi’s sphincter, usually understood to mean increased sphincter pressure. It may cause recurrent abdominal pain in middle-aged women after cholecystectomy, even in absence of clinical evidence of biliary or pancreatic disease.
