BACE2(redirected from beta secretase 2)
BACE2A gene on chromosome 21q22.3 that encodes beta secretase 2, a transmembrane enzyme responsible for the proteolysis of the amyloid precursor protein, leading to the generation and extracellular release of beta-cleaved soluble AP. It is expressed at low levels in most peripheral tissues and at higher levels in the colon, kidney, pancreas, placenta, prostate (in benign and malignant ducts), stomach and trachea.
