best practicable meansA phrase which first appeared in UK legislature in both the Salmon Fishery Act 1861 and Alkali Act Amendment 1874, which placed a limited onus on potential polluters of public waters to render harmless the liquid and solid matter they discharged from their works using the best practicable means, within a reasonable cost.
