e) Mandibular foramen to base of mandible
(E): Vertical line from the ventral limit of the mandibular foramen to the base of the mandible.
Multisection spiral computed tomography was performed (Light Speed Pro 16, General Electrics, USA) of the area from infraorbital region to the base of mandible
. During the examination the subject's head was fixed so that central facial line would coincide with sagital plane; the mandible was depressed and fixed to avoid the overlay of dental arches.
(D) Illustrating position of foramen relative to deepest point of mandibular notch and to base of mandible
Line B was determined between mandibular canal and mandible's lingual cortical bone; and Line C was performed between mandibular canal and the base of mandible
Mandibular foramen to base of mandible
: Vertical line from the ventral limit of the mandibular foramen to the base of the mandible.
Lateral view of mandible showing measurements; Mandibular foramen to base of mandible
(d), Mandibular foramen to caudal mandibular margin (e), Maximum height of mandible to the condyloid fossa (f), condyloid fossa to base of the mandible (g), Maximum mandibular height (h).
--Mandibular foramen to base of mandible
(MFMB): Verti cal line from the ventral limit of the mandibular foramen to the base of the mandible.
F Mandibular foramen to base of mandible
: Vertical line form the ventral limit of the mandibular foramen to the base of the mandible.
The morphology of the shaft and base of mandibles
From the size distribution of total body length, maximum width of head, Length of head from side base of mandibles
and maximum width of head, indicating that, large worker is preceded by two larval instars (first instar larva and second instar large larva) followed by four successive molts, to become a large mature worker.
For each individual soldier, the following ten parameters were measured: i) length of head to side base of mandibles
ii) width of head to side base of mandibles
iii) width of head at the posterolateral ends of antennal carinae iv) maximum width of head v) length of left mandible vi) tooth of left mandible from tip vii) length of Pronotum viii) width of Pronotum ix) length of Postmentum x) width of Postmentum.
Front roughened on top and sides, with four depressions, two near middle line and two on lateral portions above antennal orbits; parietal bands unpigmented; antennal orbits subcircular (d = 55.0 [micron]m), with three small sensillae; front with scattered setae (1 = 5.0 - 15.0 [micron]m), more concentrated near base of mandibles
. Epistomal suture indistinct.
