A white blood cell (LEUKOCYTE) containing granules. Granulocytes include NEUTROPHILS, BASOPHILS, EOSINOPHILS and their precursors. MAST CELLS are also granulocytes. These cells are components of the immune system.

granulocyte

a type of white blood cell (LEUCOCYTE) that possesses granules in the cytoplasm and is formed in the bone marrow. Granulocytes form about 70% of all leucocytes and are of three types: EOSINOPHILS, BASOPHILS and NEUTROPHILS.
