LCD

abbreviation for liquid crystal display, a video display device that is more compact and uses less electrical power than the conventional cathode ray tube (CRT). Laptop computers use LCD displays. LCD monitors are frequently used instead of CRTs for desktop computers. An LCD is composed of electrically sensitive liquid crystals laminated between layers of plastic. Application of small electrical currents alters the orientation of the crystals, producing the image.

MARS RECONNAISSANCE ORBITER'S High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE), operating in Martian orbit since late 2006, continues to return spectacular pictures of the Red Planet's surface despite some problems with bad pixels and increasing noise in some of the camera's detectors.
By offsetting the guide star for each frame in a ran-dom pattern, when you combine the exposures during processing you avoid reinforcing noise and eliminate bad pixels through averaging.
It adjusts white balance and color, and corrects anomalies such as bad pixels and clusters that contribute to a poorer, noisier picture.
