autocatalysis

an increase in the rate of a chemical reaction in which a product of the reaction itself hastens or intensifies the rate.

A reaction in which one or more of the products acts to catalyze the reaction; after beginning slowly, the rate of such a reaction rapidly increases. Compare: chain reaction.
