Thin, loosely woven muslin or similar material used for bandages and surgical sponges.

antiseptic gauze

Gauze containing any chemical that kills or retards the growth of microorganisms.

aseptic gauze

Sterilized gauze.

petrolatum gauze

Sterilized absorbent gauze saturated with petrolatum. It is used to cover wounds without adhering to them.
