Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcome Trial. A clinical trial comparing the effects on nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI) and coronary heart disease of a beta-blocker (atenolol) ± diuretic vs a calcium channel blocker (CCB, amlodipine) ± ACE inhibitor in hypertensives, and atorvastatin vs placebo in hypertensives with dyslipidemia.
Conclusion Primary events of nonfatal MI plus fatal coronary heart disease occurred in 1.9% of atorvastatin patients vs 3.0% of placebo patients.

ASCOT

An assessment tool for predicting the likelihood that an injured patient will survive after serious trauma. It includes the patient's age, whether the trauma was blunt or penetrating, the Glasgow Coma Scale, and the initial blood pressure and respiratory rate.
