artificial oxygen carriers
artificial oxygen carriersSynthetic solutions capable of carrying and unloading oxygen, that can safely be administered intravenously to improve the oxygenation of tissues. Substances such as perfluorocarbons can be emulsified and infused and are capable of working in the manner of haemoglobin. When the technology and safety has been fully established, artificial oxygen carriers are expected to make an important contribution to solving the discrepancy between demand and supply of blood for transfusion.
