Fixation of extra articular fracture
of inferior pole of patella by on needle stainless steel suture wire.
Dorsal comminution was observed in most patients, and only one patient sustained a partial articular fracture
of the base of the thumb metacarpal: comparative study between direct open fixation and extrafocal pinning.
Radiography of the carpal joint revealed that there was narrowing of the joint space, sclerosis of the subchondral bone, marginal osteophyte formation, periosteal bone proliferation and old articular fracture
of metacarpal bone (Fig.1).
Displaced intra articular fracture
of the distal radius.
Bennett's fracture (Figure 5) was first described by Edward Hallaran Bennett in 1882 and involves a partial articular fracture
of the base of the 1st metacarpal.
This rare injury corresponds to Salter and Harris type 4 and OTA type 33-B3 fractures (frontal, partial articular fracture
of the distal femur).
There was a comminuted articular fracture
of the distal radius with an anterior displacement (Figure 2).
Results of the treatment depend mainly on articular fracture
reduction and associated soft tissue injuries.
restoration by temporary fixation by K-wires done first and any loose small articular fragment was removed.
The fixator can be used as supplemental fixation, if minimal internal fixation is used for the articular fracture
fixation, or converted to a non-joint spanning frame for fracture stabilization.
Some reports mentioned that complex articular fractures
can be treated by ring external fixators and minimally invasive osteosynthesis, with the advantage of respecting the soft tissue.
