anti-inflammatory drug

a drug which reduces the body's natural inflammatory response to tissue damage. Includes steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which are the most commonly used in exercise-related injury. They reduce pain and swelling, allowing a quicker, safe return to activity. All were developed from aspirin. See also acetylsalicylic acid.
