anti-double-stranded DNA antibody

An autoantibody against DNA, which is often present in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), measured in patients known to have antinuclear antibodies associated with lupus (glomerulo) nephritis, a major complication of SLE. Anti-ds DNA antibody testing is more specific than subjective interpretation of fluorescent staining patterns.
