anti-double-stranded DNA antibody

anti-double-stranded DNA antibody

An autoantibody against DNA, which is often present in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), measured in patients known to have antinuclear antibodies associated with lupus (glomerulo) nephritis, a major complication of SLE. Anti-ds DNA antibody testing is more specific than subjective interpretation of fluorescent staining patterns.

His antinuclear antibodies were positive, with a titre of 320, but anti-double-stranded DNA antibody was negative.
In addition, active SLE, especially if accompanied by anti-double-stranded DNA antibody or low complement levels, predicts extreme prematurity.
For example, while a peripheral (or rim) pattern of the ANA correlates with anti-double-stranded DNA, actual measurement of anti-double-stranded DNA antibody is more reliable.
