A substance that produces or stimulates the development of male characteristics. Androgens include testosterone, androsterone, and dehydroandrosterone and are secreted by the interstitial tissue of the testis and by the adrenal cortex of both sexes. androgenic (-jen'ik), adjective Synonym: androgenic hormone

adrenal androgen

Any of the male sex hormones produced and released by the adrenal glands instead of by the testes. In women, they may cause subfertility, infertility, or other conditions.
