A fossilised yellowish tree resin; amber has been used in Chinese medicine as a diuretic, nerve tonic, sedative, to dissolve blood clots, for amenorrhoea, cataracts, convulsions, hysteria and nocturnal emissions.

There is no peer-reviewed data to support or refute therapeutic efficacy.

A type of imaging that was tested and failed to improve over conventional chest radiography for diagnosing interstitial lung disease, emphysema, diffuse infiltrative disease, pulmonary nodules, mediastinal masses, calcifications of nodules and regional lymphadenopathy.
