 A transient vestibular or auditory dysfunction seen in fliers and divers during ascent, attributed to elevated and probably asymmetric middle ear pressure as a function of eustachian tube opening pressures; vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus usually resolve in 10 to 15 mins.
