1. Acidophil cells that constitute about 35% of the cells of the anterior lobe of the hypophysis; there are two varieties: one elaborates somatotropic hormone, the other mammotropic hormone.
2. Cells of the islets of Langerhans that secrete glucagon.
3. The alpha cells of the pancreas or the anterior lobe of the hypophysis.
