airway tethering

airway tethering

Radial traction of the airways by alveolar parenchyma, which is characteristically reduced in advanced emphysema and attributed to collapse and airway closure. Airway tethering may be responsible for the improved clinical status in patients with emphysema who respond to lung volume reduction surgery.
