adrenal cortical syndrome
a·dre·nal cor·ti·cal syn·drome
an inexact (and obsolete) term that has been applied to Cushing syndrome, Addison disease, or the adrenogenital syndrome.
adrenal cortical syndrome An antiquated, nonspecific term used in primary publications in the 1930s, whose authors variously applied it to hypo- and hyperfunction of the adrenal gland. It has been replaced by the condition-specific terms Addison's disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, Conn syndrome and Cushing syndrome; adrenal cortical syndrome is therefore best regarded as as inappropriate for working medical parlance.
