Madelung's disease is also known as multiple symmetric lipomatosis, benign symmetric lipomatosis, or Launois-Bensaude adenolipomatosis. It is a rare condition that is possibly related to alcohol consumption and leads to denervation and subsequent adipocyte hypertrophy [41, 42].
Multiple symmetric lipomatosis is synonymous with terms such as Madelung's disease, Launois-Bensaude adenolipomatosis, and benign symmetric lipomatosis, and is easily confused with a similar hereditary form.
