acyl-activating enzyme
An older term for protein which is recognised as three distinct enzymes:(1) Acetate-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.1] (Acetate:CoA ligase (AMP-forming));
(2) Butyrate-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.2] (Butanoate:CoA ligase (AMP-forming)); and
(3) Long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA ligase [EC 6.2.1.3] (Long-chain-fatty-acid-CoA:ligase (AMP-forming)).
