Examination protocol comprised following sequences: 1) Axial turbo spin-echo fat saturated T2-weighted sequence (TR/TE, 4100/70 ms; field of view, 30 cm; acquisition matrix
, 440x380; slice thickness, 3 mm; and acquisition time, 3 min 43 s).
Sagittal proton-density fat-suppressed turbo spin-echo (TSE) (TR/TE: 1,500/15, acquisition matrix
: 256x38 4, 18 cm field of view), coronal proton-densit y fat-suppressed TSE (TR/TE: 1,500/15, acquisition matrix
: 256 x 320, 18 cm field of view), coronal [T.sub.1]-weighted TSE (TR/TE: 500/18, acquisition matrix
: 256x320, 21 cm field of view, two excitations), and axial [T.sub.2]-weighted fat-suppressed TSE (TR/TE: 2000/60, acquisition matrix
: 256 x 288, 16 cm field of view, two excitations) sequences were included into the scan as the standard sequences.
The sagittal T2-WI parameters were as follows: repetition time (TR)/echo time (TE), 6181/130 ms; slice thickness/gap, 4 mm/0.4 mm; field of view (FOV), 240 mm; acquisition matrix, 320 x 320; echo train length (ETL), 24; bandwidth, 62.5 kHz; and no fat saturation.
Subsequently, axial DWI with 9 b values (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, 600, and 800 s/mm [sup]2 ) were obtained using a single-shot echo planar imaging sequence and motion-probing gradients in three orthogonalaxes (TR/TE, 4000/59.3-63.1; slice thickness/gap, 3 mm/1 mm; FOV, 340 mm; acquisition matrix, 160 x 192; and receiver bandwidth, 250 kHz).
Fifty contiguous DT-MR images were obtained at 1.5 T Philips Gyroscan MR scanner with the following imaging parameters: field of view = 224 x 224 [mm.sup.2], slice thickness = 3 mm, acquisition matrix
= 96, reconstruction matrix = 128, TR = 10,000 ms, TE = 76 ms, b factor = 1000 s/[mm.sup.2], the number of diffusion sensitizing gradients = 6.
An axial 2D spin-echo (SE) T2-weighted Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery (FLAIR) image: echo time (TE)/repetition time (TR)/inversion time (TI) = 140/11000/2800 ms, flip angle (FA) = 90[degrees], echo train length (ETL) = 50, acquisition matrix = 256 x 188, FOV = 250 [mm.sup.2] (for an in-plane resolution of 0.9 mm x 1.3 mm), slice thickness = 5 mm, gap = 1mm, number of excitations (NEX) = 2, and number of slices = 24.
An axial 2D SE T1-weighted image: TE/TR = 15/649.5 ms, FA = 90[degrees], ETL = 1, acquisition matrix = 260 x 209, FOV = 250 [mm.sup.2] (in-plane resolution of 0.9 mm x 1.2 mm), slice thickness = 5 mm, gap = 1 mm, NEX = 2, and number of slices = 24.
An axial 3D perfusion weighted gradient echo (GRE) sequence (Principles of Echo Shifting with a Train of Observations, PRESTO) for Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI: TE/TR = 8/16.72 ms (effective T2 = 23.71 ms), FA = 7[degrees], ETL = 7, acquisition matrix = 64 x 64, FOV = 220 [mm.sup.2] (in-plane resolution of 3.44 mm x 3.44 mm), slice thickness = 3 mm, NEX = 1, and number of slices = 30 with 40 temporal localizations.
Such independence does not imply a lack of support for the rest of the acquisition matrix
. On the contrary, the best support that can be given by the contracting staff is the competent exercise of contracting skills involving sound business judgment.
