Q. United happy family but now...

We are a united happy family with married brothers, sisters and their families. Our father died when he was suffering from Bipolar1. Now one of my sisters is diagnosed as Bipolar II. We are afraid that our family happiness will vanish soon. Please let me know about the difference between bipolar1 and bipolar11 and what the treatments available are?
A1Hey pete,
Any family that is dealing with Bipolar disorder will have some difficult and trying times. you obviously love your sister so just be patient and supportive to her. Encourage her to take medications as perscribed and encourage her to get theropy, I think these steps are invaluable to a person with bipolar. Bipolar ii is less severe than bipolar 1. Bipolar ii is usually free of the hillucinations etc... However is still very serious and needs to be treated appropriately.
I hope your family stays strong through all your struggles, with the right support and theropy/meds and the love of her family your sister should do well in learning to manage the illness...
A2I do not know the different classifications of these disorders. I suffered from episodes of severe depression for many years. The Anti-depressive medications did not help. I was starting having manic episodes about every 3 years. They got worse each time until the last time I ended up in the psychiatric hospital. Since then I have been on some new medications: Resperidol and Lamictal. I had been taking Effexor for years so the doctor kept me on that. I would like to know what medications are taken by other bi-polar 1 patient.
A3No, I didn’t because I have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 with hypomania & my diagnosis was released to my employer by kaiser yet I am still employed as an lvn 30years. The chief of Psych. Kaiser Riv. Ca J. Witkowski released that diagnosis, but failed to diagnose my ptsd. Had Kaiser not contracted out with another hospital that stopped shock tx? DR Chief is been reported for abuse to pts and is pending state hearing but is now moved up in my company as an administrator at Kaiser Riverside Ca.

Q. Is methotrexate available in the United States as a treatment for fibromyalgia?

Last year I was diagnosed as fibromyalgia. I feel a lot of fatigue and stiffness. I came upon a website from where I read that rheumatoid arthritis causes those same symptoms and can be treated with methotrexate. After reading that, I purchased a half year supply of the drug over the counter in Mexico. It eliminated all of my symptoms. A month after my supply ran out, all the symptoms returned. Is methotrexate available in the United States as a treatment for fibromyalgia?
AYes fatigue and stiffness are some of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Methotrexate is certainly available in the United States, but it is not approved for nor used as a treatment for fibromyalgia. It was originally developed to treat cancer and subsequently found to be very effective for a number of inflammatory disorders, such as RA and psoriasis. Because fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory disorder – that is, there is no identifiable inflammation in the muscles or joints in individuals with this condition – it is not clear why you responded to this drug. You should tell your physician about your response to methotrexate. It may be possible that you have an inflammatory disorder rather than – or in addition to – fibromyalgia.

Q. How does a Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) unit help fibromyalgia.

My aunt was suggested to go through TENS. Will that really help? How does a Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) unit help fibromyalgia?
A‘TENS’ units are prescribed for chronic pain sufferers and fibromyalgia patients. What is a tens unit? Tens stands for Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. A tens unit is essentially a stimulation device consisting of electrodes that are attached to the skin, the unit itself, and a battery to provide current. A Tens unit uses electricity to block nerves from sending pain messages.

AVery glad to meet you my new friend, I am also new to this community. This is my 5 th answer. About eleven million children in our country are growing up with at least one alcoholic parent. There are probably a few in your class right now. And remember, some adults grew up with alcoholic parents too.
