Q. What are the screening methods for autism?

I have a friend who has an autistic child. My daughter is 5 months old and I was wondering if there are any screening methods that help determine autism.
A1The general screening methods for autism are used by parents and pediatricians to evaluate a child’s irregular behavior for his/her age. As a parent, if you see any regression of the child- for instance, he was able to say mom and now he doesn’t say it anymore, or if a child hasn’t started speaking when they should. Those are reasons to go see someone about the possibility of autistic disorder.
A2Actually, about half of parents of children with ASD (autistic spectrum disorders) notice their child’s unusual behaviors by age of 18 months, and about 80% notice by age of 24 months. The following signs is reason to have a child evaluated by a specialist: no babbling by 12 months, no gesturing (pointing, waving goodbye, etc.) by 12 months, no single words by 16 months, no two-word spontaneous phrases by 24 months and any loss of any language or social skills, at any age.
A3Autism may not be easy to be diagnosed or even suspected by the untrained people. Among the signs to developmental disorders are problems with social skills expected at his age: lack of a social smile and anticipatory posture for being picked up as an adult approaches and in some cases poor eye contact.

Autistic children often do not acknowledge or differentiate the most important persons in their lives? ”parents, siblings, and teachers, and may show extreme anxiety when their usual routine is disrupted, but they may not react overtly to being left with a stranger.

If a suspicion arise regarding the possibility of autism, then a consulting a professional (e.g. pediatric psychiatrist) may be needed.

Q. I was wondering is there any method to keep her in control?

My 11 year old daughter is very impulsive. She will not let others speak. She talks to everyone irrespective of whether she knows them or not. Sometimes I have also noted that she blabbers something without her knowledge. I can understand that she is having ADHD but how do others know that she suffers from ADHD? Though I am guiding her positively, it is hard for her to remember these instructions. She is very impulsive that she acts immediately. She lacks good sleep as may be needed for the kids of her age. I was wondering is there any method to keep her in control?
A1parenting ADHD children can be a stressful job. but with the proper treatment, be that medication or behavioral, she would calm down a bit and even sleep better from my experience. i strongly recommend trying alternative treatments like acupuncture and biofeedback in order to reduce symptoms and not completly rely on medication. nothing wrong with medication- but nothing's wrong about lowering their amount also...:)
A2You have to train her with good social skills. Some simple diet change may help for her. Give her high protein diet like meat, eggs, and beans. This can help her in good memory and can help on the increased effectiveness of the medicines. Give her oranges and apples as they will help her in having good night`s sleep. Reduce on her carbohydrates intake like white rice, skinless potatoes and sugar.

Q. What Are the Methods of Terminating a Pregnancy?

What ways are there today to end an unwanted pregnancy?
A1"If you're not ready for it, don't have the economic ability to feed it or cant raise it in the conditions he deserve" then it would be even better to have the child and give it up for adoption. There are so many married couples who can't have a child any other way and really do want one to love and cherish.
A2the way i see it is if your able to go and have unprotected sex, then its your own fault, now the only one to suffer is the child,(if you do the crime then do the time)the only time i would allow an abortion is if it was because of a rape, aborting a child is something that will haunt you for the rest of your life, and its a moral sin.
A3cbellh47,of course there is a natural way. Having a child is great- unless you're not ready for it, don't have the economic ability to feed it or cant raise it in the conditions he deserve. Every story has 2 sides you know...

Q. What is the ECT method of treatment for depression?

I have a friend who is suffering from major depression and is now about to start ECT treatment. What exactly is that?
A1ECT is the electroshock therapy for treating severe depression that does not heal with medication trials. In this treatment, an electric shock is induced, in levels that are not by any means risking the patient’s life. It has been proven to be of great effectiveness in people with refractory depression (meaning that drugs no longer have a therapeutic effect) and is saved as a “last resort”.
A2ECT stands for electroconvulsive therapy. This procedure involves seizures that are electrically induced in anesthetized patients for therapeutic effect. ECT is most often used as a last resort (from the perspective of hospital psychiatrists) for severe major depression which has not responded to trials of antidepressant or, less often, psychotherapy or supportive interventions. It has a quicker effect than antidepressant therapy, and thus may be the treatment of choice in emergencies such as catatonic depression where the patient has ceased oral intake of fluid or nutrients, or where there is severe suicidality. Some evidence suggests it is the most effective treatment for depression in the short-term.
A3In this treatment, the patient is given a kind of electrical shock to the brain through electrodes attached to skin over the forehead and temples. Although the somewhat-frightening description, it is considered a safe and good treatment for variety of psychiatric problems, especially depression, that don't respond to regular treatments.

It's not free of side effects, however: the patient may experience seizure during the treatment and there may be memory loss, although usually not permanent.

Q. why do they say jump back on the wagon? :) what methods their are for stop drinking???

A1hi--falling off the wagon is when a person starts to do drugs/alcohol after a long periot of time-----getting back on the wagon means that person he /she has stopped doing drugs or alcohol.most people will tell you to go to AA,a group of people that get together and try to help each other stop using---ther is an 800#---an you can find them on the net.
A2fell off the wagon- maybe too drunk to ride :)
Most treatments focus on helping people discontinue their alcohol intake, followed up with life training and/or social support in order to help them resist a return to alcohol use.
there are quite a few versions of treatments that combine-group therapies, medication and detoxing

Q. a good way or a method to shed off some pounds?

Hello all, im a college student struggling with 15 to 20 extra pounds, I'm trying to shade it off, any one may say, run exercise, since I'm a soccer player it would only be obvious that i would be fit. My problem is that I hav a fracture knee and a previous dislocated right knee. Due to this i cant really excersice, so im asking for anyone out there,
A1I liked Schkinny answer. I find that eating chicken is a filling and a healthy meal. I suggest fresh vegetables instead of frozen. It's more natural and has a much higher nutritious value.
A2There are some good foods out there too to make sure you are having low calorie, filling and sustainable meals. For a male, try having 200g of chicken breast (100g for girls), cook it with some spices (some cumin seed and tumeric) and chicken stock (this will keep the oil and fat from cooking), then steam about 200g of vegies (fresh of frozen is fine), use the microwave or steamer - both do the trick. Then get a tin brown lentils (only use about 150g for boys, 100g for girls), and throw them in with chicken, stock and spices. They will soak up some flavour and still have no added fat. Serve all together!! Awesome low calorie, and high protein and high fibre meal! See my site for other food combos that you could try, www.schkinnymaninny.com.au. Good luck!
A3I think that the key to weight loss is not so much as dieting but taking control over what and how much you eat. I eat at least six times a day, thats four meals and two snacks. The protions that i eat however are not that big. I mostly just eat until I'm full or just satisfied. I really dont excercise either except for walking and I have lost 55 pounds over about a 3 or 4 month period. I LOVE food and the few diets that i did try didnt work, either because I was still hungry or I just didnt stick to them long enough to see results. I don't know if this works for everyone, but it worked for me. I think this worked because eating six meals a day kept my metabolism running almost constantly, so i ended up burning more calories than i took in. This may not take the weight off fast, but it can help you lose weight and keep it off. Hope this helps.

Q. i broke my hand .. please recommend for therapy methods? thanks a billion !

Aother then putting it in a cast..? or you mean physiotherapy? you need to do an x-ray to see if everything o.k inside. no mini fractures moving aroud and things like that. then cast it and a few weeks later when they take it down- start physiotherapy.
