Q. What does an autism evaluation consist of? How long does it take?

My two year old is getting evaluated for autism and I want to know what to expect. He is already in speech therapy. His speech therapist said she sees no signs of autism but I still want him tested just to be sure.
A1Hi Hun.. my twin son Thomas was 3 when he was taken to an assessment unit it was a 6 week look at him and how he was and acted, within a few sessions he was diagnosed with severe autism, he is nine now and still non verbal and still in nappies, i have to say autism isn't just about the lack of speech its a lot more than this, lack of eye contact , no interest in playing with other children head banging limited diet also can he a factor, Thomas had a speech therapist before he was assest at the “child development center” and even she said she thought he had autism but its not down to them they just pass on to the right people what she seen during the session, age two is very Young to be assest that is why (depending where your from) they like to leave it to three as speech is still developing.
A2They will observe him to see if there are any signs of autism, they will want to see how he reacts to different things, when my nephew was tested the neurologist literally watched him then diagnosed, so I would bet each case is different and will be handled as such. My heart goes out to you, good luck.

Q. What does treatment for prostate cancer consist of, and does it affect a male's ability to have sex?

A very close friend of ours has been diagnosed with prostate cancer (it really *isn't* my partner or me!) and we were wondering what his treatment options might be. If the prostate gland is removed, does that eliminate the ability to have sex?
A1There is a new procedure called the da Vinci procedure that is minimally invasive and less likely to lead to the nerve damage that causes impotence. However, it is still a risk, as well as a risk of urinary incontinence. And even if you are not impotent, your orgasms will be dry - seminal fluid is produced by the prostate. There are also other procedures, such as implanting radioactive 'seeds' into the prostate. It is my understanding that the risk of impotence from that or any other radiation procedure is higher than da Vinci surgery, but less than with traditional surgery. Chemo and broader irradiation can be recommended in more advanced cases.
My brother had the daVinci procedure, and he is able to have sex.
A2It can, but new surgical techniques have reduced the risk. I was diagnosed with it about a year ago, but a second opinion from Johns-Hopkins said no. At least not yet. Anyhow, there are a number of different treatments that depend on the age of the patient and the stage of the disease. At my age, 50, and the very early preliminary diagnosis, removal was recommended.

Q. I am a NIDDM diabetic and my diet primarily consists of items which are prepared using wheat.

Hello, I am a NIDDM diabetic and my diet primarily consists of items which are prepared using wheat. I do not eat rice and potatoes as I follow the diet pattern provided by my doctor and it works well for me most of the times. However I feel tempted and could not always stick to the diet that has been prescribed to me. I feel that I need to try eating different items and at the same time do not wish to fall in to a trap. I knew I am trying to go out of the way but I just cannot resist with the existing methodology and wish how I could change the current situation. I get tempted when I go to parties or food festivals and I am being upset. Infact I do love taking sweets and I have not tried anything silly so far. I do not want to take any risk but just wanted to know from the fellow members here that is there any possibility that I could try some sweet? Any suggestions?
A1daronstorm, there are wonderful diabetic cakes that you can eat!! my best friend is diabetic and she is also an excellent cook. she has dozens of different recipes for diabetic cakes and cookies. she uses sugarless sweeteners and also sugarless candies.

A2Hello, I do understand your situation. I think you need to be careful and do not go over the board and control is the best way to prevent diabetics. You can try having sweet potato….you can go for them but do not have them more. I would strongly suggest you to follow the existing pattern which has controlled your diabetics all these days. Best of luck...
