transcriptase

Any enzyme that catalyses transcription of a molecule, as in the process of producing a copy of RNA from DNA. Reverse transcriptase is an enzyme found in viruses, such as HIV, that catalyses DNA from an RNA template-the reverse of the usual procedure.
