methylbenzethonium

 [meth″il-ben″zĕ-tho´ne-um]
an ammonium compound used in the form of the chloride salt as a disinfectant and local antiinfective agent; it is applied topically to skin coming in contact with urine, feces, or perspiration, and used in a rinse for diapers and linens of babies and incontinent patients. Soap inhibits its action.

Four types of paromomycin regimen were evaluated: topical paromomycin alone, (14, 16, 20) topical paromomycin with methylbenzethonium chloride, (13, 18, 21) an ointment containing 15% paromomycin sulfate and 10% urea Paromo-U, (15), (17) and paromomycin 15% and gentamicin 0.5%.
