Four types of paromomycin regimen were evaluated: topical paromomycin alone, (14, 16, 20) topical paromomycin with methylbenzethonium chloride, (13, 18, 21) an ointment containing 15% paromomycin sulfate and 10% urea Paromo-U, (15), (17) and paromomycin 15% and gentamicin 0.5%.
The success rate of treatment among individuals receiving paromomycin only was 20;29, (14) 8;48, (16) and 5;30, (20) while the success rate of treatment among individuals receiving paromomycin with methylbenzethonium chloride was 14;34, (13) 14;34, (21) and 29;34.
Goat anti-rabbit immunoglobulin G (IgG) (whole molecule) peroxidase conjugate, Fish gelatin, 3' ,3' ,5' ,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), [beta]- cyclodextrin, urea hydrogen peroxide (Urea-[H.sub.2][O.sub.2]), bovine serum albumin (BSA), phenylmethylsulphonyl fluoride (PMSF), methylbenzethonium hydroxide were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich chemical company (St Louis, MO, USA).
The tissues were weighed and homogenized in 0.025 M PBS, pH 7.4 with 0.01 M methylbenzethonium hydroxide using a mechanical homogenizer.
