capacitiation
capacitiation
Changes that occur in the heads of spermatozoa when they are in the uterus or fallopian tube that lead to the release of enzymes that allow penetration of the egg. An oestrogen environment promotes capitation; progestins of the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle oppose it.Collins Dictionary of Medicine © Robert M. Youngson 2004, 2005
