Zenker degeneration

A glassy or waxy hyaline degeneration of skeletal muscles in acute infectious diseases, esp. in typhoid. Synonym: zenkerism

Zenker diverticulum

Herniation of the mucous membrane of the esophagus through a defect in the wall of the esophagus. It is usually located in the posterior hypopharyngeal wall. Small diverticuli are asymptomatic. Large ones trap food and may cause esophageal obstruction, dysphagia, or the regurgitation of food. Treatment is by surgery or endoscopy.

Zenker fluid

A tissue fixative consisting of mercuric chloride, potassium dichromate, glacial acetic acid, and water. It is used to examine cells, and particularly nuclei, in detail.
