VxD drivers work in both Windows 95 and Windows 98, but
VxD is not compatible between Windows 95 and Windows NT.
A "Virtual Device Driver" (
VxD) performs the same job on Windows as a TSR does under DOS: it is able to monitor the entire system and intercept, or "hook," certain system functions; in other words, it receives notification when a file is about to be opened or executed or other operations are about to take place.
Imagination Technologies Group plc (LSE:IMG), which provides System-on-Chip Intellectual Property (SoC IP), reported on 2 April that its POWERVR SGX graphics and POWERVR
VXD multi-standard HD video technologies are included in Intel's Centrino Atom processor technology, as part of the Intel System Controller Hub.
