vil·lin

(vil'in), [MIM*193040]
An actin-binding protein that, at low calcium ion concentrations, nucleates polymerization of actin filaments; micromolar Ca2+ causes villin to sever actin filaments into short fragments.

villin

An actin-binding, severing and bundling protein found in the MICROVILLI of the apical membranes of certain cells, including the canalicular microvilli of hepatocytes. Abnormalities in the expression of the gene for villin, resulting in the absence of this protein are thought to be a cause of such liver disorders as biliary atresia.

Meprins also cleave two cytoskeletal proteins, villin and actin, which would cause injury to the brush border membranes of proximal kidney tubules [12].

Initial immunohistochemical workup demonstrated the tumor cells to be diffusely positive for AE1/AE3; patchy positive for calretinin; and negative for CK7, CK20, CDX2, villin, CD45, S100, PAX8, and synaptophysin.
(b-h) Immunohistochemical examinations revealing positive Hep Par 1 and Villin, 80% positive Ki-67, focused weak positive CK 7, and negative AFP, CK 19, and CK 20.
How is villin involved in the actin cytoskeleton dynamics in intestinal cells?
found that sinonasal ITACs have a distinctive phenotype, with all cases expressing CK20, CDX-2, and villin and most ITACs also expressing CK7, so that the expression pattern of CK7, CK20, CDX-2, and villin positive may be useful in separating these tumors from other non-ITAC adenocarcinomas of the sinonasal tract [43].
By contrast, [130] analyzed the interaction between trophozoites and human Caco-2 cell layers and identified a crucial role for amoebic CPs in the prevention of villin proteolysis and associated microvillar alterations through the treatment of Caco-2 cell layers with inhibitors that completely block CP activity.
