vertebrobasilar insufficiency

An inadequacy in the supply of blood to the brainstem and lower part of the brain as a result of disease in the pair of vertebral arteries that run up through holes in the side processes of the bones of the neck. This causes VERTIGO and loss of balance, double vision, weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, speech disturbances and sometimes loss of consciousness.
