Umbrella Growth Pattern

A term of art referring to the characteristic parasol-like growth pattern of Listeria monocytogenes ‘stab’-inoculated at 25ºC in a tube filled with semisolid culture medium, which fulfills the organism’s micro-aerophilic growth requirement, and thus displays a ‘head-over-heels’ or tumbling pattern motility
