A gene on chromosome 1q23.3 that encodes UDP-N-acteylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase 1, which converts:
(1) UDP and GlcNAc-1-P into UDP-GlcNAc; and
(2) UDP and GalNAc-1-P into UDP-GalNAc.
