tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte

A ymphocyte found in solid tumors, e.g., lung cancers, melanomas, and renal cell carcinomas. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes include helper T cells and cytotoxic T cells; they participate in tumor recognition and, in some cases, tumor destruction.

Two reasons can be postulated to explain the relationship between tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and metastasis:
81) Insights from this work also include findings on the importance of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in glioblastoma, (72) and in silico approaches from these studies have uncovered novel findings regarding the regulation of asymmetric cell division in glioblastoma by such mediators as the human Brat ortholog TRIM3.
Rosenberg says he and his colleagues continue to look for particular subtypes of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes that migrate to tumor sites more efficiently than others.
There is mounting evidence that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are important immunologic biomarkers in breast carcinoma, as in many other cancers.
Gene therapy involving the transfer of TNF to tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes to enhance the immune destruction of tumor cells has already been used to treat tumors.
The researchers gave the first patient an injection of genetically altered tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL -- white blood cells that seek and destroy cancer cell -- on May 22.
Upregulation of PD-L1 in malignant cells can be induced (inducible PD-L1 expression) by the proinflammatory tumoral microenvironment; this proposed mechanism likely accounts for the PD-L1 expression seen in tumors associated with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes.
In recent, ongoing research, Rosenberg has been isolating from the tumors of cancer patients small numbers of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL cells) -- a class of white blood cell that attacks tumor cells (SN:10/4/86, p.
In a series of experiments they found that the progeny of these cells, called tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), had a dramatic effect on tumors.
10) However, this is at odds with an observation recently reported where, using the SP142 clone for PD-L1 immunohistochemistry (IHC), cancers expressing high levels of PD-L1 in TCs lacked high numbers of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes, and those tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes present lacked much PD-L1 expression.
Among the cases of i-HCC, CD3, a T-cell marker, was seen to be moderately positive in the stromal lymphocytes (mean intensity, 2+), weakly positive in the tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (mean intensity, 0.
4) Other specific histologic details displayed by some UECs were marked nuclear pleomorphism and multinucleation, and prominent tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes.
