a large, relatively nonpathogenic species found in African antelopes and in cattle in many parts of the world; the parasites are spread by bloodsucking tabanid horseflies.

One of the sandflies collected from Village Shaneri was identified to be Phlebotomus longiductus and detected to have Leishmania tropica and Trypanosoma theileri. Thirty (M-6, F-24) sandflies were not subjected to identification and gut contents of others were used for smear and culture of the parasite.
