Orthopedics A bone length-reducing cast splint held in place with plaster of Paris, used for provisional stabilization of a spiral fracture of the femoral shaft–eg, produced by a fall in which the foot was anchored while a twisting motion transmits to the femur–in such fractures, the bone fragments separate.
