a β-lactamase inhibitor having antibacterial actions and uses similar to those of sulbactam; used as the sodium salt.

tazobactam

(tā′zō-băk′tăm)
n.
A compound, C10H12N4O5S, that inhibits action of the enzyme beta-lactamase, thus counteracting bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics. It is used in its sodium form in combination with piperacillin to treat infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

ZERBAXA 1.5g (ceftolozane 1g and tazobactam 0.5g) was approved by the European Commission in 2015 for use as indicated in adult patients with complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), acute pyelonephritis, and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI).
