1. the weight of the vessel in which a substance is weighed.
2. to weigh a vessel which is to contain a substance in order to allow for it when the vessel and substance are weighed together.

The weight of an empty container. That weight is subtracted from the total weight of the vessel and substance added to it in order to determine the precise weight of the material added to the container.
