A dietary philosophy based on oriental astrology and the Chinese construct of the universe being composed of five elements: earth, fire, metal, water and wood. In the Taoist diet, each of the five elements has corresponding foods with certain qualities and functions; it is believed that appropriately chosen food combinations serve to heal and optimise a person’s energy levels (chi) and health.
