ICAM5

A gene on chromosome 19p13.3-p13.2 that encodes a protein of the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family of type-I transmembrane glycoproteins. ICAM5 is expressed on the surface of telencephalic neurones and displays 2 types of adhesion: homophilic binding between neurones and heterophilic binding between neurones and leukocytes. It may play a critical role in neuron-microglial cell interactions during normal development or be involved in neurodegenerative disease.
