TBP

A gene on chromosome 6q27 that encodes a general transcription factor which acts at the core of the DNA-binding multiprotein factor TFIID. Binding of TFIID to the TATA box is the first transcription step of the pre-initiation complex, and plays a role in activating eukaryotic genes transcribed by RNA polymerase II. TBP is a component of the transcription factor SL1/TIF-IB complex, which is involved in assembling the pre-initiation complex during RNA polymerase I-dependent transcription.

Molecular pathology
Defects of TBP—expansion of a CAG repeat in the coding region—cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 17; the longer the expansion, the earlier the onset and the more severe the clinical disease.

Of these, NF-GMa, Krox-20/WT1I-del2, BAF1, AP-2, TBP, TFIIF-beta, TRF, and TFIID motifs were found to be conserved between local FeLV isolates and the two characterized FeLV-Rickard subgroup A and FeLV-FAIDS reference isolates.
TBP binds TATA box elements in promoters and it is a subunit of the basal transcription complex TFIID, which increases RNA polymerase II activity.

We therefore also quantified transcripts of the gene coding for the TATA box-binding protein (TBP, a component of the DNA-binding protein complex TFIID) as the endogenous RNA control, and each sample was normalized on the basis of its TBP content.
