TAS2R1 A gene on chromosome 5p15 that encodes a taste receptor for the perception of bitterness, and which may play a role in sensing the chemical composition of the gastrointestinal content. TAS2R1 may stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation and lead to the gating of TRPM5.
