sucker

  1. an axial shoot arising from an adventitious bud of a root and appearing separate from the mother plant. Such structures are common in the family Rosaceae.
  2. a new shoot on an old stem.
  3. a modified root in a parasite enabling it to absorb nutritive materials from the host.
