vardenafil

n.
A drug that inhibits phosphodiesterase, C23H32N6O4S, used in its hydrochloride form to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing the level of cyclic GMP, which increases blood flow to the erectile tissues.

indication This drug is used to treat erectile dysfunction.
contraindications Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. Alpha-blockers or nitrates prohibit should not be coadministered with this drug.
adverse effects Adverse effects of this drug include hypertension, conjunctivitis, tinnitus, photophobia, diminished vision, glaucoma, abnormal ejaculation, priapism, myalgia, arthralgia, neck pain, rhinitis, sinusitis, dyspnea, pharyngitis, epistaxis, rash, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and increased gamma glutamyl transpeptidase. Life-threatening side effects include myocardial infarction and cardiovascular collapse. Common side effects include headache, flushing dizziness, and insomnia.

vardenafil

A selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5, the enzyme in the penis that limits the action of nitric oxide in promoting erection. (See SILDENAFIL CITRATE for fuller account). The drug is said to be effective more rapidly than Viagra. A brand name, presumably selected with the irresistible necessity for humour, is Levitra.
